FIRST PITCH

On May 31, my dad threw out the first pitch at the Brewers game. A lot of people asked me how it came about, so thought I'd share the tale.  It's definitely a case of , "If at first you don't succeed..."

In March of this year, I decided I wanted to do something special for my parent's 50th anniversary on May 29.  I really wanted to recognize my dad, who had fought in World War II and had never sought out the spotlight...unlike his son.  Don't get me wrong I wanted to do something special for my mom too, but I'm gonna have her do the coin toss for a Packers game.

I went to the Brewers ticket office to inquire and the guy working there was nice enough to give me the number of someone in the Brewers office, the woman I talked to in the office gave me the e-mail of the woman in charge of on the field stuff.  I e-mailed her and nothing. I was very disappointed and kind of gave up on the idea because that's the American way.

On April 21, I decided to post on Facebook and ask if anyone had any connections with the Brewers.  My friend, Justin Wood, suggested I post on Twitter.  I figured it was a long shot, but did it anyways.  It started to gain some traction when my friend, and America's Got Talent runner up, Taylor Williamson retweeted it.  The Brewers even "Favorited" Taylor's post.  I knew I was on to something. I asked my friend, Ramiel, who hosts a popular sports show in Milwaukee to share this on his Twitter feed, the next day and he did.  By now this was getting Retweeted more than anything I'd ever written (not sure what that says for my joke writing).  By the end of the day on April 22, I heard from the promotions person at the Brewers and she said to call her the next day. 

She said pick a date and the rest is history.  I guess the point is, never give up or know somebody who's moderately famous.
